2.              How do the two families feel about eachother?

3.              What does Shakespeare mean by “star-crossed lovers”?

Happy Friday! 

Here is the agenda for today:

1. Warm Up:

Review Ideal Mate Worksheet!

2. Shakespeare Background- Stations

Today, you will be working in groups to develop your background on Shakespeare and theatre.


Step 1: get into groups of five (30seconds)

Materials: each group member will need a pencil and paper

Step 2: in your groups number off one through five
Step 3: with your new group, study the information at the station that corresponds to your number. (Example- if you were numbered off as a "1" go to STATION 1).

At each station, there are a list of questions. On your piece of paper, write the question number and the correct response based on what you read. REMEMBER- it is your responsibility to become an expert on the information so you can teach the other the members of your original group what you learned.

YOU HAVE 15 MINUTES AT YOUR STATIONS.

Step 4: when you return to your original group, you will present your information for four minutes each to your other group members. GROUP MEMBERS NEED TO TAKE NOTES ON THE INFORMATION FROM OTHER STATIONS. 




Note: there will be a quiz/review on Shakespearean Background and Drama terms next week!!

1. Warm up: when you think of social offenses, what comes to mind? Explain. 

2. Social Offenses Activity and Response


-Tomorrow there will be a substitute teacher. You will be working on Romeo and Juliet pre-reading questions and will begin the Ideal Mate survey activity.

The Ideal Mate activity is a worksheet with questions for both you and your parents. 

There are two parts to this activity-

Part 1: you will respond to the questions (IN COMPLETE SENTENCES).
Part 2: you will take the worksheet home and have either of your parents respond to their questions and sign the worksheet.

You will start working on this Wednesday in class, it is due FRIDAY. We will go over it and it will be submitted for credit.

Any attempt to forge parents responses or signatures will result in a phone call home and lunch detention.

HW: Complete the SOAPSTONE worksheet and turn it in tomorrow. USE IT AS REVIEW!!

Other things to study for the quiz:

-narrative poetry (definition, where you can find it now, what does it include)
-review Raven/Poe notes

When was the poem first published? What is an allusion? Know an example from the poem.
Know alliteration! What is the raven a symbol of? What is the tone of Raven? When did Poe's parents die?

2. Gallery Walk:

As you can see, your stanza posters are hanging around the room.

Before we begin pick someone from your group to act as a "host." During the Gallery Walk, they will stay at the posters.

HOSTS: Read the original stanza, explain the vocabulary words, the tone, rhyme scheme, and share your paraphrased version of the stanza.

Rotating Groups: LISTEN and LOOK at the posters. This is not social hour, pay attention to the stanzas to review for the quiz.

1. Warm up (my poetry section): tell me something that you learned about Poe or "The Raven" from yesterday's notes that you found interesting, tell me WHY.

2. "Raven" oral reading, follow along on page 940

3. React and write: what is your reaction to the poem? How did it make you feel? Do you think the narrator is crazy or just upset? Who or what did he lose? Write down everything that comes to your mind now that we have read the poem.

On Monday, we have another minimum day. So please come in, grab your notebooks, and go straight to your group table so we can get started on the group activity!

1. Warm up(my poetry section):  if you were to write a song, what would you write about. Brainstorm SEVERAL ideas for today's activity.

2. Rap song: today, you are going to work on writing a rap song to wrap up our lyrical poetry section. Please write this in the "My Poetry" section of your notebooks.

Your rap song needs to meet the following requirements:

-It needs to include rhyming words
-Must be three stanzas!!
-Try to include figurative language and deliver a message in your song
-Suggestion: include a refrain or chorus that is repeated throughout the song

HW: Finish your rap song and bring your notebooks back tomorrow!
